There is surh a large amount of ; our space taken up in this issue with reports in connexion with the Borough Council's loan proposal to raist CB4,oo<> that we shall refrain from dealing at length with it here. The poll will be taken to-morrow, and for the sake of the future of Pukekohe we trust that the loan will be sanctioned. There is nothing in the items comprising the proposal which is not needed. It may be that the town hall and municipal buildings cannot he erected for the money stipulated, in which event the hal! scheme, at anyrate, will have to be discarded. In 'that event we will be "as you were," and nothing will have been lost. Water, lighting, drainage, fbading, thev are all good sound propositions; in fact, it is hard to see how the borough can carry on indefinitely, and yet progress, if these things are not provided for. Objections have been raised, some of which, notably the fact of the loan being short-dated, have been proved to have been based on misconcep-tions-pardonable errors, certainly, but errors nevertheless. As to the point that the money may not be spent judiciously, that need not worry us much in view of the fact that, long before much loan money can be spent, the electors will have the opportunity of putting new men in power should they so desire. Should the proposal be turned down it will be a severe blow at the material interests of the borough, and will also lessen the prestige of the place, especially as scores of local bodies' ratepayers have recently sanctioned loans." Carrying the loan proposal will pay in many ways: turning it down will Result in municipal stagnation. Vote for the loan proposal, and let the motto be: Advance Pukekohe!
