ENTERTAINMENTS.

LYCEUM PICTURES. One of the strongest pictures in the career of Frank Keenan, "The .Midnight Stage," will be the star attraction for to-morrow (Saturday) night's screen in tr. This is a story of California in its Halycon days of treasure tiove, a picture that depicts the raw brutality of the bad man's paradise, but is so perfectly presented that it can only serve as a trenchant lesson. It contains wonderful photography and a vivid plot. In this story Frank Keenan plays the dual role of the gentleman of honour and the stage robber. One is the antithesis of the other. Each is played in a manner that only an actor 'of Keenan's anility could play them Tie atmosphere and characterisation of the plot knit together m a tense, real story of the goldrush days.

PHOTO DRAMA OF CREATION. Few people can spend a lifetime in the delightful study of science, astronomy, history and the bible. Life is too short for that and duties are too many. But we can spend a few hours for these things. The Drama of Creation, which is <>iven free in the local picture theatre by the Bible Students' Association, "has thi'ce parts of one and ahalf hour each. The first part, '•From Star Nebula to the Exodus," will be screened on Sunday night, the second part Monday, and third part Tuesday, evenings. It consists of a large number of beautiful lantern pictures acompanied by explanatory leeturettes. It is a philantropy for the education of the public in the things of God, and in the defence of the bible as the inspired message of God. Selected hymns are played 15 minutes before commencement. Children without guardians will not be admitted. This is done to ensure quietness during the lecture.

NGARUAWAHIA REGATTA. About 12,000 people attended the Ngaruawahia Regatta on St. Patrick's Day. The weather, which at one time threatened rain, remained line, and thus everyone enjoyed a delightful day. There were, apart from the excellent programme of events, very numerous sideshows and booths Picnic parties were freely in evidence, and the whole atmosphere was one of jollity. The regatta officials carried out efficiently the well-thought-out arrangements, which, in some respects, were an improvement on those of previous yeai<s. The turnstile entrances were a decided improvement, as was also the placing of a barge in the stream for the haka and poi dances. It is fair comment to state that more people had a clear view of these events than did so on any previous occasion. The canoe and boat races were all well contested, and eagerly followed by the great crowd. The committee displayed a fine spirit in having a Plunket Nurses' tent on the grounds for mothers with babies. A very large number of people boarded the excursion trains from Pukekohe, Tuakau, and other places in this district, and on the return journey very frequent expressions of satisfaction with the regatta and the day's outing could be heard on all sides. Unfortunately, the trains were considerably late returning.
