PUKEKOHE DEFEATS POKENO. BY 45 RUNS ON FIRST INNINGS. The Pokeno cricket team journeyed to Pukekohe on Saturday to try conclusions with the home team. So far this season the Pokeno team has done exceptionally well, defeating the Tuakau eleven. On form it was anticipated they would more than be a match for the local team, but on the day's play such was not the case. Included in the visiting team was a father and four sons. Pokeno batted first, and compiled a useful 51), the chief scorers being Anderson (17), G. Lyons (13) and P. Harding (10). Pukekohe replied .With 104— the highest score this season. S. Fitness and R. Blake were responsible for 58 of the total. The partnership realised 56 runs. Fitness compiled >39, including two "sixers," and Blake 19, including a "fiver." The only other double-figure scorer was F. H. Hewitt with 15. In their second innings Pokeno knocked together 53 in rapid style, H. Dale with 11 being the chief contributor. The local eleven showed greatly improved form, and now that their luck has changed much better things are hoped for. The Pokeno Club has some firstclass cricketers, but they had a day off on Saturday. Afternoon tea, -provided by the Uotae team, was duly: appreciated. '» Appended are_JJje scores:— i >; nnings. R.
