RAGLAN COUNTY RATES

RATE COLLECTING RECORD. "t'I7ERK CON(; R ATULATH I). At Wednesday's meeting of the Raglan County Council it reported that the whole of the European rates for the year had been collected. The chairman (Mr. Caimbell Johnstone) congratulated the clerk (Mr. 11. Maisland) on his achievement. He added that when it was seen that other local bodies had considerable sums outstanding, it was a credit. not only to the clerk, but to the council. It was the 12th successive year that the clerk had succeeded in collecting the whole of the European rates for the year. This, he considered, was a record that would stand for a long time. He trusted that the clerk would still use his endeavours to collect the rates in the future as he had done in the past. The chairman's remarks were punctuated with applause.
