PERSONAL.
Mr. J. W. Civil, who has occupied the position of engineer to the Raglan County Council for a number of years, has accepted a similar position with the Waipa County. Mr. Civil takes up his new duties in about three months' time. Lieutenant A. R. Hatt, area officer of the Pukekohe Distict, has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. This distinction was earned on Gallipoli, with Australians, but the recommendation for it was overlooked at the time, and came to light only recently. Lieutenant Matt was communicated with by the ActingMinister for Defeive, and congratulated.
Messrs. Quartley and Thomas, barristers and solicitors, Vulcan Lane, Auckland, have secured an otlice in Pukekohe (above Mr. Win. Jones, saddler's, premises) and will attend on Thursday mornings. Mr. Quartley has been appointed solicitor in Auckland for the South Auckland Land District, under the Discharged Soldiers' Settlement Act. Captain A. G. Quartley, M.8.E., F.R.G.S.. prior to the war was in command of the Pukekohe Mounted Rilles. He suffered the loss of an eye on active service. Mr. N. R. W. Thomas, LL.B., who was formerly with Mr. 11. (!. R. Mason. M.A., LLB.. belonged to the Waikato Company, Auckland Regiment. N.Z.E.F.
