FRANKLIN A. & P. SOCIETY
EXECUTIVE MEETING. The executive of the Franklin A. and P. Society met in the society's office on Tuesday. Present: Messrs. J. N. Massey (president), F. Shipherd, S. Shipherd, F. Ballard, W. J. D. Sharp, J. Reynolds, Jas. Wylie, J. Pollock, F. J. Morrow, J. K. Hamilton, Jas. Roulston and the secretary, Mr. D. R. Hamilton. Railway Steward. Mr. V. Papesch wrote stating that owing to ill-health, he would be unable to act as railway steward at the forthcoming show, but offered the society the use of his paddocks. —On the motion of Messrs. S. Shipherd and Morrow, it was decided to thank Mr. Papesch for the "use of his paddocks, and the secretary was instructed to write him expressing regret at his indisposition. Donation of £2O to Prize Fund. The North Auckland Jersey Breeders' Association wrote stating that certain of its members had contributed £2O to the prize fund for the next show, and requested that the nyMMf be allotted to certain classes. —The secretary reported that he had already allotted the money, and on the motion of the president, his action was endorsed.—On the motion of Messrs. F. Shipherd and Sharp the donors were heartily thanked for their offer. Jersey Judging Competitions. The secretary reported that Mr. C. R. Spragg had donated £3 3s towards a Jersey judging competition, and Mr. Claud Rountree £5 5s for a school Jersey judging competition.—Both donors were cordially thanked. Board of Agriculture.
The Auckland A. and P. Association advised that a conference for the purpose of electing a member to the Board of Agriculture would be held in Auckland on February 4. The secretary, Mr. D. R. Hamilton, was appointed to represent the Franklin Society. Tenders. The tender of Mr. Adams, of Hamilton, was accepted for the luncheon and fruit and confectionery drinks. The tender of Mr. W. C. Waugh, of Drury, was accepted for the publican's booth.
Entertainment of Judges. The matter of entertaining the judges was left in the hands of Mr. Dynes Fulton. Green Feed. Considerable discussion ensued with reference to the supply of green feed for stock on show days. Owing to the dry season, those present were of the opinion that it was doubtful if maize could be procured. At the annual meeting some contended that hay would be as serviceable as maize, but after careful deliberation the committee left the matter in the hands of the president and secretary to deal with. Past President's Photos.
Some time ago steps were taken to obtain the photos of past presidents. Up to the present only four of the photos have beej received, but several others are already in the hands of the photographer, for enlargement purposes. The committee desire to have them all ready for show days.
