MANUREWA WATER SUPPLY.
Proposed Provision.
Papakura's Hunua Scheme.
In addition to the report on a scheme of water supply for Papakura, which appeared in Friday's Times, the Fapakura Town Board's Engineers, Messrs Lockie Gannon and Mac Duff reported as follows on a scheme for Manurewa:— By your direction we have gone fnto the scheme for supplying Manurewa with a water supply from the Fapakura Main and with the data available only approximate calculations can be submitted at present. Proper survey and levels would be necessary between Papakura and Manurewa before a reliable estimate can be arrived at. To give Manurewa a workable pressure, a 10 inch and 9 inch supply pipe from the headworks to Papakura, and an S inch pipe from Papakura Township to Manurewa is necessary. By the adoption of the 10 inch and 9 inch pipe, would entail an extra expenditure of 4*7568. In the event of Papakura deciding to supply Manurewa from Great South Boad at Papakura's northern boundary, the difference in cost between the 8 iheh pipe from Broadway, to this boundary, and the Board's proposed smaller pipe would be an additional £llOO If this 8 inch pipe were used Fapakura would draw off the main, thus eliminating its proposed smaller re iculation pipe. A twin meter would be necessary at the northern boundary. The question as to disposing of water to Manurewa, or Manurewa bearing the extra expense involved, owing to the necessary larger supply pipe to give them a workable pressure, was a matter that should be considered by the Board." We give this information for what it is worth to Manurewa readers.
