LADIES' RETURN BALL
. Tha Maramaiualadies on the 9.h inst .gave a return dance lb the Baohelors and both of whom had gone to ".considerable jNffuble to entertain* at previous dances given by each section
- The hall was beatuifully d»c >rated.: Across the hall from corner to corner was strung lycopodium fern interspersed here and there with crimson ba'lojns and Japanese lanterns, also in c imson, • blue, .nd white. Round th* walls were placed white toi toi and bamboo with hydrangeas peeping out here and there; the whole effect when lit up was exceedingly petty. The committee ccyisisted of Mesdames Stokes, E. Mclnnes, V McInnes, E. Mabey, Clark, L Dim mock; Misses Downie, Stokes, Mclnnes and Robertson (2), who are to be heartly congratulated on the success of their efforts. The music, which was perfect as usual, was in the hands of Mr Dimmock, of Waerenga, (violin) which was enough to ensure the success, and Mrs A. Mclnnes (piano). Mrs Clark and Miss Downie were appointed M.C's. To judge by the happy faces and frequent encores given to the musicians, who very kindly lesponded, the dancers were having a tip top evening's enjoyment, and when Mr Les Clark, in a racy little speech, thanked the ladies, and expressed the ap preciation of the bachelors, those present cordially endorsed, his remaiks.
Dancing was kept up til? 2 45, when everyone went home well pleased with the evening's entertainment We expect shortly to have another Monument danoe.
