BUCKLAND.
NEWSY NOTES A very enjoyable dance was held in the hall on the first night of the year. Miss Oeraghty played excellent music through the evening, Miss Morgan and Miss Wright playing the extras. The dancing was kept going well into the morning, when the merrymakers went home very tired, but all hoping that the New Yeiar had many such functions in store for them. On the 10: h Buokland Tennis team went to Bombay to play the Bombay team. The party had a very jolly trip over in Mr Bert Leighton'* motor lony, and though Buckland did not win, they had a splendid afternoon's sport, to say nothing of a very good afternoon tea provided by the Bombay ladies. The results were: Ladies singles: Mrs Bear (Bom bay) 9, Miss Allan (Buckland) 3. Gentlemen's singles: Snelling fßuoklaud) 0, W. Bilkey (BuckBombay) 9, Bert Leighton land) 0, W Bilkey (Buokland) 9, Cornthwaite (Bombay) 8, Evans (Bombay) 9, T Wilson (Buckland) 4 Combines: Mrs Bear and Bnelling (Bombay) 9, Miss Allan and B Leighton (Buokland) 4 Mies Shaw and W Bilkey (Buokland) 9, Mis Proude and Cornthwaite (Bombay) 5 Mrs Clement and Evans 9, Mrs Greenway and Wilson (Buckland) 2. Miss Avery and T Bilkey (Buckland) 9, Miss Wootten and A Ramsay (Bombay) 2. Bilkey thanked Bombay for the vr/y pleasant afternoon they had sent and called for three cheers for Bombay. Mr Evans responded suitably on behalf of.theßombay Club On Saturday, St Paul's Sunday School held their annual picnic in \ Mr Todd's property by the BuckUnd week. The superintendant Mr lV>dd and the two teachers, Miss Todd and Miss Pollock wera indefatigable in their efforts to amuse the children. Paces were run and j '■ the prizes awarded during the afternoon and tea was had under the willows by the creek. Swings were hung under thg willows and the children spent a very happy afternoon.
