Manurewa Proposed Hospital Site
And Franklin's Interests Sir,—A portion of a somewhat remarkable article by your staff representative, in your issue dated 12th December, attracted my attention. It referred to the area of land purchased by the Auckland UO9 ital Board at Manurewa, and it more tlun confirmed what I had already suspected, that the Board had act .d contrary to the interests of the ratepayers in hastily agreeing to purchase a tract of country which is unnecessary for hospital purposes. To the public it may p9rhaps always remain a mystery as to why the funds extracted from the ratepayers of the district should be squandered in this manner, but I know of no - locality ia the Province that is run by land agents and speculators for the benefit of their ignoble selves so much as Manurewa is As long as . the residents there do not object, it is, of course, not au outsider's business to interfere, but now that the members' of the Hospital Board have misused the Hospital funds to benefit a syndicate of speculators at the expense of the district ratepayers, a weighty protest is overdue, and it is the manifest duty of -the Council to make a searching inquiry into the transaction, and if, possible, have it cancelled. \ s S FK ANKLIN BATBPAfBR^;, ;
