Cr Armstrong eaid the committee had dealt fully with Mr Walker's report, and as far as it was concerned, the committee had finally dealt with the report. He thought that the matter should be deferred until there was a full Council.
Cr Patterson agreed and the amended motion was seconded by Cr Morrow and the report was adopted. WOHKS COXI\UTTEE REPORT Progress has been made during the past month with authorised works which have been held up for some time through inability to get material. Scoria and metal has come to hand, and per medium of traction engine and waggon has been carted and spread on the following roads.
Jellicoe Road has been scoried a distance of twelve chains. Kitchener Road has been scoried from Tuakau Road corner going east about 10 chains West of Anzac Road on the Hili metal and scoria has been carted and spread to fit in with the concrete stormwater channel. This work still requires 70 yards of scoria to complere the work.
Repairs nave been done in Hel vetii R >ad, also Cape Hill with scoria. These roads require to be scarrified, raked up and rolled.
Harris Street kerb and channel has been completed 7 J chains, and metal has been carted and spread to fit in with the newly constructed channel The path requires to be tided up iu the low lying places and brought up to permanent levels so as to consolidate before any tarring work c in be done.
There are borne 200 yards of scoria yet to come to hand to complete scoria that has been ordered. The foreman has been tryiug to get this material through to enable bim to complete the works now in hand as the whole of this work must be well rolled The Committee recommend after these works are rolled and finished that all roads within the Borough which require scarifying shall be gone on with. It is therefore necessary to have a quantity of fine broken metal for the purpose of making up any weak or uneven places in the roads; the object being to make the roads uniform when rolled to an even surface, anl to effect a batter bond with the ni3tal thus effecting a saving of material and maintenance of the roads. The Committee also recommend that in the interests of thi public ssbity and to avoid accidents, that notice boanl* be erected on or in the fo'.lowng streets denoting the speed limit of motor cars. These boards to bee-ected in suitable places at a distance that will enable motorists to slow up before coming to these corners when coming into the town No. 1 board, west of Dell's corner (West Road). No. 2 board, south of Dell's corner (Queen street) No 3 board, East street at bridge end of King street, or at any place the Council may decide on. The chairman of the committee, Cr Daysb, strongly urged the erection of notice boards, in order that the travelling public should know the speed which they were allowed to travel in the Borough. They had speed limit by-laws, and travellers not conversant with these, may commit a breach of the by-laws. Councillors agreed, and on the motion of Cr Keith, the works committee was empowed to have the notice boaids erected.
Cr Daysh said the works committee intended to allocate 70 yards of scoria to Kitchener road, 100 yards to McQuire's and Motion's
road. (Mr Motion would grant £2O tow irds the cist of the latter), and 40 yards to Jellicoes road The balance of the 250 yards ordered, f whan it came to hand) would be used for patching and repairs. Tae report was adopted on the motion of Crs Keith and Armstrong. It was decided to call applications for dog registrar and ranger. It was agreed to place an order for dog collars, with Mr H. Dell. Owing to the possibility ot the general elections taking place on the next meeting night, December 17th, the matter of fixing a date for next meeting was left to the Mayor and the Town Clerk. With a view to view to expediting the loan proposals it was decided to day next. The foreman was authorised to obtain disinfectant for the purpose of disinfecting the streets.
