PAPATOETOE.

BANQUET TOR.TURNED SOLDIERS. A very pleasing function took place last evening, November 3rd, in the Methodist Church, Papatoetoe, the officials of the above Church tendering a banquet to the returned soldiers connected therewith, a very enjoyable time being spent, the ladies of the congregation providing a sumptuous supper. The tables were groaning under the weight of the ham and tongue, the salads, the jellies, the fruit, in fact everything that the heart of a hungry man could wish for. After full ju tice had been done to the good fare provided, a number of toasts were honoured. "The King,' by MrPouster; "The Returned Boys," by Mr J Bryant, res ponded, to by Mr Leslie cf Farnsworth, who specially thanked the ladies for the parcels received when in Palestine. Mr W. Burton, also thanked the ladies and congregation for the good things sent to the front which were very much - ppreciated by the boys. Mr Wilfred Firth proposed the toast to "The Parents of the Boys," which was rsspotded to by Messrs J. Burton. H Farcsworth and A. Banderson. The Rev Porter (Presbyterian), who was present spoke a few words of sympathy and encouragement to the parents of the boys who had fallen in the tight. Mr Norman Law proposed "The Empire," to which Mr Jordan res ponded Songs w<-n rendered by Mr W. Firth and Mr Wes. Burton, a pianoforte solo, Miss Lena Matus chka, after which a number i f games were indulged in a very pleasant evening brought to a (lose with supper and Auld Lang Syne. Tlir guestfi of the evenirg were: Messrs Burton 2', Fame worth ('2 _, Elder, Scanlon, Irvine, Coxon, Jordan, and Galloway.

The extension to the Methodist Church Sunday School is now under way. The building is being pu' u; by voluntary labour. It is expected to have it erected inside (.fa f. rt night. The forthcoming Ro<-e Showis to be in aid of the building fund. Great interest is bring taken in the ?how.
