CATHOLIC CON 3ERT AN UNQUALIFIED SUCCESS With a view to liquidating the expense incurred by the Catholic Church authorities at Tuakau, in constructing steps at the entrance to the church, a concert was held in the Tuakau Hall on Friday evening last. There was a large attendance, representatives being present from all parts of the district. The stage was daintily decorated with greenery and flowers, and on the whole it presented a unique spectacle. The concert wa9 undoubtedly one of the best of its kind yet held at Tuakau, and the promoters deserve no end of praise for the manner in which arrangements were carried out. The artists hailed from Auckland, Pukekobe, Tuakau and Waiuku, and it is difficult to individualise the performarces of any particular one, but Miss Otto ot Auckland came in for favourable comment on all sides for her singing, while Mr Lonergan wis also to the fore, and revealed the fact that he possesses a fine baritone voice. The stage management was in the capable hands of Messrs P Kepple and F Dromgool, while the accompaniments were placed by Misses L MtGahan and M. Geraghty. UNSIGHTLY FENCES. At the Town Board meetirg on Tuesday night the number of unsightly ferces along the main streets at Tnakau, came in for criticism. The matter was brought up by Mr 0. Ficch, who asked if the Board could do anything to have the fences erected, or something else done. It was very necessary to have the fences in keeping with the street Some of the fences were very unsightly indeed. The chairman endorsed Mr Finch's remarks, and said that if owners of property did the fences up, it would be a great improvement to the appearance of the township. Eventually, Mr Finch moved, that the Board respectfully ask property owners, to attend to fences, which were in a delapidated state. Carried.
