TOP OF KING STREET
11 A Disgrace." The speakers of a deputation which waited on the Borough Council on Wednesday night in reference to the state of the top of King street did not mince matters.
Mr F. Perkins, after referring to the incomplete state of the street, said it was highly discreditable to the Borough. There was a "lagoon' 1 there for a considerable portion of the year; the lamp should be removed; kerbing was required alongside the Presbyterian Church; further, kerbing was wanted from his corner to the school. Re was willing to pay half cost for the part passing his property. Mr H. Dell referred to the heap of stones that had been lying there for three years. He had to pay for the tarring of the footpath passing his shop. The whole end of the town there was a disgrace, though it was all to have been put in order by the last loan. To make the locality decent would satisfy not only residents, but also visitors, to whom the wretched state of affairs gave a bad impression of the town. Mr Dell humourously referred to a notice stuck on the lamp post some time ago, to the effect that excellent duckshooting was available, and that a license could be secured from the Borough Council —Laughter. " Now, you just go properly into this matter, and don't shelve it as is generally done in such cases." was Mr Dell's final admonishment.
The Mayor promised to have the matter thoroughly gone into at the next general meeting.
