PUBLIC WORKS.
Local District Grants. The Minister for Public Works, Hon Sir William Fraser, presented the Public Works Statement to the House of Representatives last evening, a copy of which has been forwarded to the Times. WAIUKU RAILWAY The appropriations for Railways, includes from 1919-20, an amount of £20,000 for the Waiuku Branch Railway while the Expenditure for 1918-1919, was shown at £16,666. In reference to the Waiuku branch, the Minister says : The only formation work of any magnitude remaining to bo done to complete to the 10-mile peg is a bank and cutting at Mauku Creek. Operations are in progress between 10 miles and 12 miles. Arrangements were made which enable the Railway Department to c*rry goods on the unopened line between Patumahoe and Mauku, and a weekly service is run in conjunction with the train from Paerata to Patumahoe. BUILDINGS.
The following items also appear, with regard to buildings: Pukekohe Courthouse, £'soo; Drury Post Office (on account), £'2oo; Mercer Post office, purchase of property, £875 ; Waiuku Post Office, retai; lug wall, and draiuage £4OO ; Whitford Post Office £77.3; Bucklaud Post Office (on account), £IOO ; Manurewa Post Office, £'JSO. A full statement, with regard to the votes for bridges and roads in Franklin and Manukau Counties, will appear on Tuesday.
