il We nothing extenuate, nor id ltown auaht in malice."
THE time is approaching apace when"the Pukekohe Borough Council will have to devise soins means of preserving the footpaths under its jurisdiction. At the present time the whole of the (>ath> in the Borough are subject to damage by rattle, and more so during the wet weather. This was strikingly demonstrated a few days ago when a sale watt in progress. A TIMES reporter, when on the Manukau Road, noticed a large mob of cattle being driven along the the street in tht direction of King Street. The footpath, aiithougii only uewlv constructed was somewhat soddened. a rid the entire mob o| cattle took Jo the path.and the passers-by at once observed that much damage had been caused. It is quite evident that wiuothing
should be done as speedily possible. In this connexion we trust that the cattle *ulr way, south of the Pukekohe Railway Station, as advocated in these columns, will be constructed in the near future.
