OBITUARY.
Mrs E. M. Roose.
One of our oldest and most highly respected residents was Mrs E. M. Roose, wife of Mrs Elijah Roose, of " Rosemont," Pukekohe, whose death was notified in our columns last Friday. Mrs Koose was the oldest daughter of Mr David Stevenson, who came to the colonv in the early sixties in the " Ida Ziegler," whose trip of 81 days was then one of the fastest on record. She was married to Mr Elijah Roose in 1870, and was thus within a few months of celebrating her golden wedding. She came to " Rosemont" as a bride, and it was her home until she died. The end was somewhat sudden, the deceased having contracted a chill about a week prior to her death. Septic pneumonia set in, and she rapidly sank, in spite of all medical assistance and nursing care, and passed peacefully away on Thursday morning last. The late Mrs Roose was wellknown, and had wide sympathies and a benevolent nature, which found expression continually. As a member of the Methodist Church she maintained a strong christian character, and was especially interested in the Foreign Mission work, paying for the upkeep of a native teacher each y ear - , Her widower, and a family of six mourn her loss. They are : Mr E. L. Roose, of Pukekohe ; and Meadames A. Wright, Pukekohe; T. Brownlee, Pukekohe; J. D. Algie, Algies Bay ; and Misses E. and F Roose, Pukekohe. Two brothers, Mr David Stevenson, Waihi, and Mr W. E. Stevenson, Taumarunui, survive her, while Mr J. T. Stevenson, F.R.A.S., a third brother, predeceased her by five years. The funeral was conducted on Saturday afternoon, and in spite of the boisterous weather was largely attended. The service was conducted by Revs. J. F. Martin and J. J. Mather.
