Asked why he had not paid for the upkeep of his children, defendant replied that he had no money at present, as he had to pay back debts. His Worship said that the country could not keep his children. The case was adjourned until October 16th.., in order to give defendant a chance to have the amount ad juste J. LIQUOR TO NAI'IVES That he attempted to supply two battles of beer to a native for consumption, off licensed premises, on August 30th at Tuakau, was one charge preferred against Hilton Olark, a resident of Tuakau. He was further charged with, being under 21 years of age, he falsely represented himself as being of the age, and procured intoxicating liquor from the licensee of the Tuakau Hotel, on August 30th 1919. He was also charged with stealing two postal packages from the Whangarata Post office The lad pleaded guilty, and was convicted and fined 40s and ordered to refund the amount of the money stolen, on condition that he resided with and worked for Mr Coad at Whangarata, the latter to report to the police periodically, as to the boy's conduct.
