MACHINERY WANTED It is quite impossible to lay down good roads in the days of motor traffic unless we have rollers," Mr J. W. Civil," the Council's engineer He advrcated the securing of two tractors, convertible into rollere. These would oost about £ISOO a-piece. Cr Crawford supported the suggestion. Members considered that a loan would have to be raised over the whole County for plant. Cr Crawford added that every riding should have its own plant The north end had not had much use of the traction and plant. The chairman commented that other ridings were similarly unfortunate Cr Crawford said that the okawa riding had had the tractor only six weeks altogether. The engineer explained 'that it might be better to sell the present engine, which was too heavy, and bring a lighter one, more suitable for con vo; son into a roller, as required. The chairman: We would get our money back for the old engine now. Cr Otway thought that each one, or two ridings together, sh uld own their own plant. The moving of plant long distances was too costly. Informally, the opinion wa9 expressed that it would be most unfortunate for the Pukekuwa and adjacent ridings if the locn proposals were not given effect to. A setback in this direction would delay important road formation and metal linh indefinitely.
