TOWN BOARD (Continued from Friday ) OJ'AHEKE ROAD FOOTPATH Mr George Giant was present, on behalf of a number of settlers on Opabeke Road, who each offered to help for two or three days to form a footpath on the west side of the road, past the property belonging to Mr Callis. As the road was very muddy in winter be felt sure that the mrrabers would roalize what a benefit a footpath would be to pedestrians. The main difficulty to be faced was the provision of drays for the work. Mr Campbell moved that the offer bo accepted and that the Board should help to the best of its power Mr Evans siconded the motion and it whs carried. I'HoroSKH CARK Regarding a letter received from the I'upakura Athhtt'o. Club, Messrs I). B. Stewart, E.Cole, J. Mills, C Mills, M. Denipsey, Turner, Johnson and Beaton, waited on the Board in support of their letter protesting against the Roar I not taking immediate steps to secure from Messrs Willis Bros, the piece of laud lying to the west of Kast street. The Chairman stated that the Board was just as keen as anyone else to have the matter tixed up, but owing to some disagreement between the members over the selection of the piece of ground they had not been able to do anything definite as yet, but would let the Sports' Committee know what their decision was as soon as they had arrived at it.

OE> T ERAL It was moved by Mr Evans, and seconded by Mr Mcintosh " That the letters from Mr D. B. Stewart, Mr Walter Blair, Mrs S. Eyes, and Mr G. Scott objecting to the closing of the drain in front of their properties be received" Carried. Re the letter from Mrs Lynch requiring the Board to pipe five drains on the new road that is being opened near her property, Mr McLennan moved that the Board inspect the place." The Chairman moved that the letter from Mr W. R. Hamilton, re sanitary notices, be referred to the sanitary committee. The motion was seconded by Mr Evans and carried. With regard to the letter from Messrs Napier, -Fetchett and Rees, who, writing on behalf of Mrs K. J. Lynch, insisting on the opening of the new road right to the railway .line, and also giving notice to the Board that it will be held responsible for any damage done to Mrs Lynch's property if it fails to put in proper pipes in the drain across the road, and so causes the water to be blocked back. TheChaiiman moved "That the letter be replied to and the facts of the case be explained." Seconded by Mr Evans and carried. Mr Campbell and the Chairman had been to see the trees that Mr Sweeney had requested to have cut down, and they recommend that permission be granted. Mr McLennan moved that the permission be granted. Seconded by Mr Evans and carried. The Board had erected a fence at the corner of Rouse lie street to prevent cattle going on the footpath but some person had interfered with the fence so that it would ho longer > stop cattle. Dr Brookfield moved I that Mr Mcintosh speak to the man who did the damage and tell him to ! replace it as it was formerly, or in event of his not doing eo the Board would put the matter in the hands of the police Pathway past the Manse: The place was inspected by the Chiirraan and Mr McLennan, and the Works Committee recommended that the work be done. Mr Campbell moved that the work be done and tenders called for it. Carried. Mr Shove (ranger) made application for the use of the reserve so that he might put the anima's he collecto in there. The Chairman moved that he might be allowed the use of the place, with the provision that he keep it clear of noxious weeds Seconded by Mr Campbell. Carried. An application was received requesting that a tennis club which is in the process of formation may have their tennis courts on the village green. The club propose making one ashphalt and two sand courts, but they require some conditions whereby they may not stand in any danger of being turned off the courts. Mr Evans moved that Mr Stanton be written to and if his legal opinion is favourable then the Board shall give permission. The motion was seconded by Mr Campbell and carried. Mr McLenuan moved that on Wednesday, 27th August, the Board go in a body to inspect the ditch on Settlement road. Seconded by Mr Mr Evans and carried.
