PEACE CELEBRATIONS
Bombay celebrated peace on the top of the beautiful Bombay Hill, by holding a picnic and sports. Starting soon after ten in the morning, the proceedings never lagged, every child on the ground receiving a prize. At noen, five minutes of silence with bared heads, was deveted to the memory of the fallen. After lunch a sports programme was carried out, the following being the results of the chief events —Boys' Race, D, Barker, Ist; R. Wootten, 2nd ;A. Shaw, 3rfl. 100 Yards Handicap, A. Lowrie, Ist; J. Garea, 2nd; E. J. Evans, 3rd. Donkey Race, Miss Gauntlett and A. Lowrie. Returned Soldiers' Race 200 Yards, W. O'Neil, Ist; F. J. Wootten, 2nd; A. Wray, 3rd Single Ladies' Race, Miss A' Donovan, Ist; Miss M. Flay* 2nd. Married Ladies' Race< Mrs, Honi, Ist; Mrs. Anderson* 2nd; Mrs. Laing, 3rd. Halfmile walk, J. Garea, Ist; A. E. Harris, 2nd; A. Wray, 3rd. Addition Race, Miss G. Wootten and A. Lowrie. Half-mile Handicap, F. Wright, Ist; A. Lowrie, 2nd; W. O'Neil, 3rd. Tug-o-war, Married v. Single, won by single. Thread Needle Race, Miss Gauntlett and A. Wray. Egg and Spoon Race, Mr. Pople, junr. Endurance Test, P. Wilson.
The celebrations were continued in the hall at night, when a most enjoyable social was held. The music, suppled by Messrs. Barker (Piano), and Brown (violin), was of the best. The waltzing competition was won by Miss D. Barker and Mr R. Reynolds, Mrs Barker and Mr R. Donovan being second.
