CARLTON
OPENING OF NEW CHURCH HALL
Quite recently an article appeared in the Times with reference to the building of a new Church Hall at Carlton, Pukekohe West. At that time, the structure was not completed, but now the finishing touches have been put on. The whole of the work was performed by voluntary labour by the residents of the locality, and now the little settlement of Carlton, possesses a building, in which to hold divine services of which it can justly feel proud. The church is plain in appearance, but v<#y neatly put together, while the interior is rather comfortable. Quite recently the official opening took place, and the seating accommodation of the new house of worship was taxed to its utmost capacity, a large number having to stand. Besides the whole of the residents of the settlement being present, there was an exceptionally large attendance of Pukekohe people. Mr Frank Perkins, of Pukekohe, presided and in the course of his remarks, declared the building open. Addresses were given by Rev J. F. Martin, Methodist Minister, Captain Thomas of the Salvation Army, Messrs M. J. Rogers, Joseph Foster, and Strong. During the evening items were rendered by Messrs Rogers, Curnow, Rouse, Raynes, Fallows, R Steenson, J. Steenson, Hemsworth, Strong, C. Rogers, Miss V. Porter, Miss Rowe, Miss Hemsworth, Mrs Adams, Miss Young and Mr and Mrs Curnow. Supper was partaken of and duly appreciated. On the whole a most pleasant function was spent, in fact, it was the most successful yet held at Carlton. A pleasant evening was brought to a close, with the rendering of tho National Anthem
