LOCAL AND GENERAL.
Owing to the large volume of matter pertaining to Peace Celebrations in the Franklin County, several reports on general subjects are unavoidably held over until Tuesday. The Times ventures to predict that there will be a considerable improvement in goods traffic on the railways within about a fortnight's time. A reminder is given of the meeting ta be held in the Premier Hall to-night, for both civilians and soldiers, when addresses will be given on the aims and objects of the R.S.AThe Committee of St. James' Annual Spring Flower Show, Pukekohe, are now making arrangements for the next Show, to be held on Thursday and Friday, 18th and 19th September. Good entries are anticipated. Owing to the Te Koa's concert party of soldier entertainers playing here on Tuesday next, the social and dance to have been held in the Punihall on July 29th, will now take place a day sooner. Dancing enthusiasts are requested to bear this mind. Several wires have been received as a result of the indignation meeting at Pukekohe last Friday, Jn reference to the restricted railway transport, and the General Manager for Railways promises to submit a schedule of essential goods. In the Times of July ISth, an addition—" Deceased celebrated his golden wedding on February 9th, 191 f >,"—appeared at the foot of a paragraph referring to the late Mr P. Lewis, whereas this should have been attached to the notice in reference to the late Mr W. Goldsworthy. Exhibitions of fruit-tree pruning are to be given by Mr W. C. Thompson, Government Orchard Instructor, at Mr Hungerford s "Cashmere" estate, Papakura, on Monday, July 28th ; at Mr Wiltshire's, Ramarama, on Tuesday, '2'> th ; and at Mr C Clarke's, Princess street, Pukekohe, on Wednesday, 30th. All interested should attend these valuable and instructive demonstrations. The following team have been chosen to represent the Pukekohe football club in the matches with Bombay to-morrow :—Wilson (2), Reynolds (2), Adams (2), Blake, Lucas, Sutton, Crum, Marshall, Borich, Bilkey, Burgess, Forbes, and Maloney. Junior : Malohey, Adams, Costello, Howse, Hart, Cronln, Da/.eley, Fulton (2), PerKins, Schlaepfer, Lysnar, Stewart, Blake, Ryan, and Guerney. On Tuesday last the police received a telephonic communication to the effect that a resident of Pukekohe East, named Robert Mulgren, had succumbed suddenly. No particulars as to the cause of death were available. An inquest was held on Wednesday, before Mr Cecil Roadley, District Coroner, when a verdict that death was due to heart failure accelerated by heavy drinking was returned.
