MANAWARU

AMALGAMATION A meeting of shareholders of the Manawaru Co-op Daiiy Company, Ltd. was held yesterday afternoon, for the purpose of discussing the advisability of amalgamating with the N.Z. Co-op. Dairy Coy. Ltd. Mr Howard occupied the chair. Mr Goodfellow addressed the meeting and gave the shareholders a considerable amount of information dealing with the recent amalgamation. He stated that the trustees were very gratified with the result of the voting which proved that an overwhelming majority of the dairy fanners of the South Auckland province favour amalgamation. Further, the voting entirely iiscredited the organised effort of certain glaxo shareholders. Some of these people were conscientious objectors, others were simply agents of proprietary interests. In order to place the fullest possible details before the suppliers of the Matangi and Matamata glaxo factorial, further meetings were held at those centres last week and after considering the matter from every point of view the shareholders of both factories, unanimously decided (with only one exception) to carry out Nathan'i contract, as arranged for in the proposals formulated by the amalgamation trustees. Continuing, the speaker stated that the recant fight was not only for " amalgamation ,r or no '• amalgamation " but in reality "co operation versus proprietary interests," that is, whether in ten years' time the dairy industry of the south Auckland province would be controlled by the producers or from Wellington. Tne speaker urged Manawaru suppliers to combine with the large concern for their inufokl benefit. He stated that the business would be run on thoroughly democratic lines and he was satisfied that with amalgamation, Manawaru suppliers would lose nothing but wmld gain considerably. After Messrs J. J. Clark, W. £. Clark and H. 0. Cooper had also sp >ken, the amalgamation proposition was put to the mooting and was carried unanimously. , A further meeting ot shareholders will be called at au early date, to pass the necessary formal resolurions dealing with this matter.
