The Franklin Rugby Union championships were advanced a further stage on Saturday. Owing to the rain, the grounds were in a somewhat slippery condition, and consequently the ball was very difficult to handle with accuracy. Pukekohe 14 v Tuakau 0 The Tuakau team journeyed to Pukekohe to try conclusions with the home 15. The visitors played with 12 men owing to the romaindor failing to put in an appearance. L Reynolds won the toss and Tuakau set the oval rolling against a stiff breeze and at once set up a vigorous attack. They drove the reds back to their goal line and for an infringement by a Pukekohe forward Taukau were awarded a free kick but the kick at goal failed and Pukekohe forced. From the drop out Pukekohe attacked with vigour and Tuakau retreated. The Tuakau full back hung on to the leather and Puke kohe were awaaded a free kick but although an easy one Mason's kick went wide. From this on Pukekohe had all the best of the spell but could not score. The first spell ended with no score. The second spell saw Pukekohe putting more dash into the play. Joe Adams secured and beautifully side stepped a number of Tuakau players. Ho transferred to J. Blake who scored a clever try. W. Adams kick failed. Pukekohe 3 Tuakau 0. The local forwards were getting all over the visitors and several sure scores were spoiled through over eagerness. From a free kick Tuakau took a hand and assisted by the wind drove Pukekohe back and it was certain they would score but W. Adams secured and found the line, saving an awkward position. The ball came back as quickly as it went down and J Forbes missed scoring by a whirker. The same player was almost over a minute later while Sutton was grassed on the line immediately after. A free kick for Tuakau relieved an ugly position and play was transferred to pukekohe 25, where Roy Smeed had an excellent chance to equalise the scores, but his kick went wide. Half time sounded soon after with the score unaltered. With the wind in their favour great things were expected from the Home team but literally they were playing with the visitors and the game was nothing more than a good practice for Pukekohe. They took things very easily. They drove Tuakau to their own line where they had them pinned for some time. Several scrums wore seen from which Pukekohe gained the advantage. Blake, H. Bilkey, G. Lucas and Mason were almost over on several occasions. From some open play by the forwards L. Reynolds secured and opened up the game. Burgess got over, but Mason's kicked failed. At this stage Roy Smeed of the Tuakau team had to retire owing to an injury to the knee. This con-' siderably weakened the visitor's ranks and Pukekohe took it very easy. The home team were playing well together now and a greater score could have been registered had they settled down to work. The third spell ended Pukekohe 14 ; Tuakau 0

Two of the spectators Messrs W. Guest and L. Albert took the field to assist Tuakau in the final spell and they proved, especially the latter, a tower of strength. Much excitement was created when Albort almost scored for Tuakau at the finish. The game ended as above. Fukekohe 14, Tuakau 0. Mr J. Reynolds refereed. The shining lights of the home team were J Blake, J Adams, backs, and H. Bilkey, Mason and W Reynolds forwards. The remainder of the team played exceptionally well. They shone out against a weak team. Waiuku, 6 ; Bombay 3 Waiuku journey to Bombay and defeated the home team by 6 points to 3. Mr E Pollock refereed. JUNIOR Pukekohe, 3; Tuakau, 3. Pukekohe juniors travelled to Tuakau, and met a very strong home fifteen. The game ended in a draw, each side notching a try. Daisley scored for Pukekohe. Mr Crichton, of Auckland, refereed. Waiuku, 12; Bombay, 0. Bombay met Waiuku at Waiuku, and the game was all favour of the home team, who left the field victors by 12 points to nil. Mr Christiansen refereed
