Ratepayers of the Franklin County Council are particuarly directed to advertisements in this issue in reference to the proposed stoppage of certain roads. A special meeting of the Franklin A. and P. Society will be held on Wednesday next, at 1 30 p m ; and the annual meeting at 2p m. A full attendance is requested. It is suggested that a Franklin vVinter Show should be held in future, seeing that the facilities already exist, and that a Winter Show always pays better than one hold during the summer. Mr H. G R. Mason, ex-Mayor of Pukekohe, has been selected by the New Zealand Labour Party as a candidate for the Manukau electorate at the forthcoming Parliamentary elections. Mr Mason's career, a very successful one, was chronicled in the Times some months ago. The return euchre match (20 aside between the Pukekohe Bowling Club and tne Pukekohe dairy factory, eventuated in the former's pavilion on Wednesday night. The Bowling Club again won, this time by 203 points to the dairy factory's 178 points. The game was decidedly interesting, and was appreciated by all concerned.

During the last few days Pukekohe has received a taste of winter conditions, and'needless to say, the cold weather has nut been well received. Yesterday in particular, was perhaps the worst day experionced this winter. A cold wind hit the whole district, atid as cvaiytbiug underfoot was voiy damp, matters were somewhat unpleasant. Not only is the clungu in tho atmosphere r«lt by human beings, but cattlu a:o :,!.., feeling the effects Owing to the protracted .spell of dry weather, food became very scarce and the l»eautiful autumn rains, although late, proved beneficial, but the grip of winter came on before the grass could make any material headway. Naturally, its growth has beon checked, and if farmers are unprepared with winter fodder, probably there will be a certain porcontugo of stock die. A number of lambs have made an appearance, but present weather conditions will not assist the fleecy lifde oiTsprings' chances of development Cows, too, are coming in rapidly. The change of weather lias also somewhat ret irded agricultural pursuits

Eeid) had generously offered to put 10s in the £ to all the money the Committee could gather towards erecting a flagpole at tho new school. It is not possible to tell by this morning's cables exactly when the peace terms will be signed ; in fact, it is not made absolutely clear that the German Government, as it exists at present, will sign at all. However, when the signing is actually over, no time should be lost in making final preparations for peace celebrations.
