MANUREWA.
FAREWELL TO MR AND MRS H. RALLS. On the evening of Tuesday, 20th May, a farewell social, tendered by the congregation of St. Luke's tcf Mr and Mrs H. Ralls, who are leaving shortly for a trip to England, was held in the public hall, and proved an unqualified success. Willing hands had turned the hall into a drawing-room for the occasion. There was a large gathering, presided over by our highly-esteemed Vicar (Rev. P. Smallfield), who, in his opening address, bore testimony to the good and faithful work of Mr and Mrs Ralls as parishioners of St. Luke's, and, on behalf of the congregation, wished them a safe and enjoyable trip to the Old Country and back again.
Mr Ralls has been a very successful farmer, whose farm has alwaya been worked in a manner veiy creditable to himself and the district.
A very suitable and entertaining programme was provided by the following ladies and gentlemen Mesdames Mellors, Lucas, Phillips ; Messrs Phillips, Hawthorn, Corin, Mellors, and Whitburn (2.) Three-minute speeches also afforded considerable amusement.
After full justice had been done to the sumptuous supper provided by the ladies, the singing of (< Auld Lang Syne" brought to a close a very successful farewell gathering.
