BOMBAY.
MEMORIAL At a well-attended public meeting held in the Bombay Hall on the 24th inst., the Bombay Peace Memorial scheme was further discussed. The Inspection committee reported that they had inspected various sites, and made inquiries as to the possibilities of purchasing the most suitable, but owing to the absence of the owner of what they considered the most desirable site their report was necessarily incomplete. An offer to dispose of one acre adjoining the Public Hall was received from the owner and declined on the grounds of the site being too small, and the price very much too large. The Inspection committee was strengthened in number and instructed to proceed with the scheme. A Finance committee was elected to consider ways and means and report to a future meeting to be called when the Inspection committee have succeeded in securing an option on a suitable site. The keeness of the interest being taken in this question was evidenced by the large number of ladies present at last Saturday's meeting. LAND SALES The demand for good dairying land is making itself felt in this district, quite a number of farms changing hands during the last month at prices ringing up to £75 per acre.
