Yesterday's Meeting^

Th# ufuit taonthly meeting of the Franklin County Council was held in the Council Chambers, Hall street, yesterday. Present: Crs W. Claud Motion [chairman), R. F. Reid, J. A. Short, T. W. Woods, J. 3. Montgomerie, H. Wilcox, J. Keith, W. H. Thomas, with the County Clerk (Mr Ar P. Day) and the County Engineer (Mr J. F. Mc Arthur). } f , mCE CEEEBHATIONS The Minister of Internal "AUafrs forwarded a copy of the proposals pf the Government respecting Peace celebrations. The Chairman. said the question was whether the County as a whole should take it up or not. The various towns in the County would be arranging something amongst themselves, and for that reason he did not think the Council as a whole should take anything- they would clash with the arrangements made in the centres. Then again, said the Chairman, the Borough Council was arranging something. The whole question before the Council was whether it should take it up or whether each Riding member would arrange for a function in his Riding. Cr Wilcox said he was quite in accord with what the Chairman said. In Buckland, he said, they had a meeting and intended to hold spoijts on Peace Day. He thought the matter of providing funds should be left to the people and thought the Council should not donate any sum. The Government would be subsidising money collected. In bis district they were collecting for the project. The Chairman said in Waiuku they were collecting money for the celebrations and the matter was left in the hands of the Waiuku ToWn Board. The Chairman then moved that thq lettes be received and that anjfnui&lMr could take notice of it and arrange something in his own aiding. Cr Wood said his riding was close to the Borough and be would support the Borough arrangements. A circular letter was received from the Minister of Public Health expressing the thanks of tbo Govfrti ment to the local bodies, and to the people of the district,' lot the instance rendered during the influenza epidemic.
