PUKEKOHE'S ELECTIC LIGHT.
Proposed Country Extensions. A meeting of delegates of various bodies, called to discuss the advisability of forming an Electric Power Board for those portions of the Franklin County of which Pukakohe is the centre, waß held in the Borough Council Chambers, Pukekohe, on W sdnesday last, when there wore pjesent—The Ylnw-r ard Ore A. B. Barter aad G. il. Aimstrorg (representing the Pukekohe Borough Council), Mr b. \\. Jones and Dr A, W. P. Brookfield (Papakura Town Board), Crs vV. Claude Motion, H Wilcox, and W. H Thomas (Franklin County Oouncii), and Mr W. Wyatt (the Pukekohe.Borough Council's Electrical Engineer The Mayor presided.
Cr A. il Bar er, chairman of the Lighting Committee oi the Pukekohe Borough Council, read a report of tha Committee, as presented to the last meeting of the B >roigh Council, in which it was proposed to eularge the Borough plant, and, in view of applications received for power from outside di?tric v B, and with the prospect of the G ivernment hydro-electric n;heme being an accomplished fact within a few years, it was recommended that if applications for cuffui nt pow> r was guaranteed from the outside districts a suitable plant should be installed at [the Borough power-house to supply the increased demand.
After some discussion, and an explanation having been given as to the formation aud powers of an Electiic Power Board, it was resolved that those present should form themselves into a committee, each to lay the matter before his own luoal body, and to ask that body to officially appoint a delegate to attend another meeting in the near future, the various local bodies also to be requested to authorise its delegates to employ a Consulting Engineer to report on a scheme suitable for the district, the cost of the report to be apportioned by the committee amongst the various local bodies interested.
It was agreed that the next meeting should be held at Pukekohe on Wednesday, April 9, at 1.30 p m. The Mayor mentioned that at the last meeting of the Borough Council if was decided to forward a remit to the Municipal Conference to urge upon the Government to remit all duty on all machinery and material imported by local bodies for the purpose of constructing public works. If that was achieved, he added, it would mean a considerable saving in < xpense in the installation of the scheme under consideration, and he proposed that the members of the local bodies present should urge the Government to make legislation to that effect.
