THE RABBIT PEST
(To the Editor)
Sir,—The information received that the Agricultural Department ia failing in its efforts to supply ghosphorised pollard for rabbit poisoning purposes will doubtless cause dismay and disappointment amongst Babbit Committees and to the many diligent settlers, who were making determined efforts to check this pest. It is extremely unfortunate that just when a real lire and active Inspector was bringing pressure to bear on defaulters and absentee owners be must perforce be requested to refrain from prosecuting, on account of the necessary poison being unprocurable. The fact seems to be generally admitted, that throughout the whole of Franklin County, and the Waikato right to the King Country, rabbits have increased to such an extent as to give genuine cause for alarm and unless the Government can see its way to accede to the request sent in by the Farmers' Union to establish more poison mixing plants in the Province, so that an adequate supply of pollard poison may be always available, then tbe outlook for settlers in the infested area is gloomy indeed.—Yours etc, M. MARKHAM Ararimu.
