PAPAKURA.
At the meetiag of the Papakura Town Board last Monday support was asked by the Devonport Borough Council to a resolution they had passed urging the Government to repatriate all alien prisoners of war, both military and civilian, at present int°rned in the Dominion. No action was, however, taken, the feeling of the Board evidently being that the Government could bo relied on to mete out justice The committee appointed to consider the quostion of the erection of a suitable memorial in honour of Papakura soldiers who had mode the supreme sacrifice in the groat European conflict met on Tuesday evening last, those present being Mr D W. Jones (in the chair), Rev Butterworth. Dr A. W. P. Brookfield, Mr E. I). McLonnau, wiih Mr J. Batty (Karaka). Messrs McNab and Mason, of Auckland, submitted tho plan of an obleisk which was estimated to cost £2OO. It was resolved to recommend to a public meeting of citizens the erection of a structure on lines submitted in the plan. It was also derided that it should bo a recommendation to •the meeting that the monument be erected in tho centre of tho township opposite the old saleyards, corner. It was further agreed tliat the committee should visit the various monumental masons' yards in Auckland jrith a view to ninking further enquiries.
