BUCKLAND.
At a farewell social tendered by the Methodist Church last month to Mr and Mrs W. H. Butler, who are leaving shortly for the Old Country, Mr Butler presented a large bible to the Church, and offered to give 4*l for £1 collected towards obtaining pews for the Church and paying off the debt ot £9O incurred in the additions made to the building about two years ago. The trustees set to work, with the result that the whole of the amount required was soon promised, the effort being brought to a successful conclusion by a thanksgiving social on Wednesday of last week. The Bev. J. F. Martin, on behalf of the congregation, asked Mr Butler's acceptance of an illustrated 'bible for his infant son, as a slight token of their appreciation of Mr and Mrs Butler's help and sympathy in Church work. The new pews ware greatly admired, and the trustees expressed their thankfulness to all who had assisted to bring about the happy result.
