KARAKA.
Mr H. E. Glasson, of Karaka, writes:- February turned out. a dry, hot month, the rainfall, 1 55in. being only about half the average. Rain fell on six days, the maximum, 48 points, falling on the Ist. in January, which was a cold unseasonable month, the total fall was 2.42 in , the same as the average for the last seven years ; rain being recorded on 18 days. The following are the monthly averages for the last seven years, not reckoning January I'J 11, when no observations were taken here, also the average number of rainy days in each, to the nearest j whole number :—January 2,42 m., 11 days ; February 3 1 lin , 11 days; j March 4 32, 12 days; April 4 40, 15d.iys; May 4.10, 18 days; June 4 96, 18 days ; July 5 15, 21 days ; August 3.91, 1!' days; September 3.50, 16 days ; October i.42, 18 days; Novomber 4 48, 17 days; December 3.49, 12 days. The average annual rainfall for the pafct seven years was therefore 48 38in. In 1018 the total was 52 G7in , less by nearly 12 inches than the total for 1017, which was a record wet year.
