WAR MEMORIALS.
(To (he Editor.) Sir,—l read with interest the leading article in your last issue, in which you suggested that the people of Pukekohe should, as soon as possible, give heed towards securing some suitable form of War Memorial to perpetually commemorate the noble sacrifices made in the war. To my mind, however, a monument on Pukekohe Hill, such as you suggest, although of course it would stand out as a prominent landmark, would be of little practical use. In my opinion, the matter of utility should not be overlooked. Some time ago, when a member of the Pukekohe Borough Council, Mr Roadley put forwaed a scheme for the provision of a public swimmingba f h, and such a project seems to me worthy of consideration as a war memorial, with a tablet to be erected on the building bearing an inscription relative to the war. Yours, etc, PUKEKOHE CITIZEN. January 17, 1919.
