TUAKAU.
A miraculous escape from instantaneous death occurred at the Tuakau railway station last Monday night. Mr John King, an employee of the Waikato Dairy Company at Tuakau, who left Auckland by the first Main Trunk express for the South, apparently attempted to alight, after discovering that the train, which was travelling at a speed of between 30 and 40 miles an hour, was not going to stop at the station. After jumping, he appears to have rolled right underneath the train, and had a wonderful escape from being cut to pieces. His right leg was off below the knee, and he sustained other injuries. The stationmaster noticed Mr King lying on the line after the train had passed. He was attended by Dr Cheesoman, of Tuakau, and was conveyed to the Hamilton Hospital by the second Bouth-bound Main Trunk express, which passed through about half an hour later.
