RAGLAN COUNTY COUNCIL

Annual Meeting The adjourned annual meeting of the Raglan County Council was held on Wednesday of last week. Present: Crs C. Johnstone (chairman), Cobourne, Cochrane, Otway, Crawford, Lowry, Rawlinson, Beavill and Swann. Messrs Bateman and Peake, Glenmurray, askei for some repairs to the road near their property, also for permission to erect a small storage shed on the road.—Left in the hands of the members of the ridings interested (Crs Cobourne and Lowry) who agreed t) spend £3O on the work. With regard to the storage shed the Council would not take the responsibility. Mr Leonard Allen, Onewhero, asked to have the road near his place formed. The work was estimated to cost £2OO, towards which the Government had promised £IOO. He would contribute £SO, and he asked the Council to find the balance -It was agreed that as soon as the Government j;rant is available the work will be done. It was reported that £1207 Is lOd was available for expenditure in the Onewhero riding, and £362 18s 8d in the Pukekawa riding The eng : neer reported that the prevailing epidemic had upset the carrying out of loan and other works. In the Port Waikato Riding a fair amount of earth works had been done; hardwood had arrived for the Port Waikato-Tuakau Bridge, and work would commence that week. In the Onewhero riding several works had been completed, and the Kauri Road deviation had been arranged for with Mr Aston for £SO. In the Pukekawa riding the iron bark for the Ohairo bridges had arrived and the erection will be started in a few weeks' time. An estimate hid been made for metalling varioun roads in the Pukekawa and portion of Whangape ridings, also the forming of some miles of new road, the computed expenditure being £28,000. The report was adopted and the various councillors were authorised to carry out minor works in their respective ridings. It was decided to hold the next meeting at Raglan on Tuesday, Januasy 21st, 1919.
