PAPATOETOE.
The matter of the creation of a Town District for Papatoetoe in place of the existing Road Board District was mentioned at the meeting of Manukau County Council on Tuesday last when Cr F. M. Waters said he had been asked if the Council objected to the Papatoetoe Road District "being formed into a Town District. He stated that he had replied in the negative except that the Council objected to the proposed boundaries and also as to the personnel of the Commission set up to enquire into the matter. In reply to a question by Cr Waters as to whether intimation had been received when the Commission would sit the Clerk (Mr Alex Bell) replied that no date had so far been arranged. The newly formed Orchestral Society, whose operations were necessarily dormant during the recent epidemic, held its first practice on Monday last, some 20 playing members being present. The Society, so far. has a total of 29 playing members, including nine from Otahuhu The conductor (Mr P. C. Calkin) superintended proceedings, and good headway was made. In the absence of the President (Mr A. W. Hall), Mr 3. Barton, on behalf of the executive, welcomed the members, his remarks being supported by Mr Jas. Hunter (Treasuaer). Mr Ernest Reid, of Wallace road, has disposed of his residence and five acres at the satisfactory figure of £2,600.
