PAPAKURA.
TOWN BOABD DISTRICT NEW BOUNDARIES FIXED COMMISSION'S REPORT Messrs H. M. Skeet and E. Morgan, who on August 30th last sat as a Commission at Papakura relative to the proposal to extend the boundaries of the Papakura Town District, have now issued their report and the alterations recommended by them have been submitted to the Governor General for his formal approval. The Commissioners state —" After formally opening the enquiry we made an inspection of the di-frict affected, accompanied by the advocates of the various proposals. On resuming, lengthy evidence was taken. We found that there was no opposition to the proposed inclusion of the area as defined by the original petition. The principal ground of objection was the exclusion of an area situated close to the centre, whioh is already sub-divided, and which was admitted, in the course of the evidence given by opponents to its inclusion, to be more valuable than part of the land thiy had petitioned to have taken in. Apart from the evidence of two membeis of the Town Board, who supported the boundaries as set forth in the original petition, all who gave evidence were practically unanimous on the following main principles That the full area allowed should be taken in; that the district should be made compact; and that as far as possible roads should be avoided as boundaries. To the soundness of these principles we agreed and if the scope of our enquiry and recommendation had suggested, or if there had been any expressed desire on the part of those interested to be severed from the Town District, we would have included in our recommendation the exclusion of a certain area abutting on the Hunua Road, comprising lots 36/8 and others which are now part of the original Town District, for by so doing the district would be made more compact and workable. Acting, however, within the limitations imposed by our authority, we consider and recommend that the area shown on the accompanying plan be constituted the enlarged Papakura Town District, and we also consider that it can be managed economically and efficiently and will be well suited for municipal control." Particulars of the revised area are attached to the report. Briefly, they are that the Board's southern boundary is carried on to the Great South Road and then takes in a portion of the Argyle Estate down to the Parahurehure stream. On the northern side the boundary is extended along Clevedon Road, taking in a portion" of Mr E. D. MnLennan's "property along Hewling's line, and is also enlarged at the north-western corner to take in the Vicarage. The late Board's proposals have thus been accepted together with the addition of the Clevedon Road area as suggested by Mr D. W. Jones on behalf of the Ratepayers' Association.
Papakura township is now practically clear of influenza, and there have been no recent admissions to the hospital. 32 cases are, however, under treatment in the institujjfln, but only one is of a serious n^tfire.
