THE GUILTY SOUL.
Why are the soldiers marching by ? "Why do the mothers and sisters cry I Why must the flower of the count iy die? f Ask the Kaiser, he knows why. Why must the children fatherless be; And loved ones die in the cold, blue sea? Why has my dear one gone from me ? All this, Kaiser, caused by thee. : Thousands and thousands have fought and died; Above them glow the flame-lit skies. Why are the dear lads cold and dead ? Their blood, oh, Kaiser, is on thy head. Fiend Kaiser, hang thy head in shame; Men, women end children, hate thy name. Where are your victories ? Where is your gain ? Is it the shell-torn cities and countless slain P f All through the ages you and yjour race The hatred of men will have to face You are under a cloud of guilt and shame, And the British forever will ecojn thy name. 1 —Florence Pukekohe. :
