WAIPIPI
The influenza epidemic is still rather prevalent in the Waipipi district, but fortunately no local fatal cases have occurred except amongst the Maoris. Some of the patients taken to the Waiuku Hospital have now returned to their homes in the convalescent stage. It is reported that most of the sick people from this district in the hospital are doing fairly well except Mr Dan Gleeson whose condition still causes anxiety. Messrs Oleeson's, Keogh's and Jones' families were amongst the worst sufferers, all the members of their respective households being laid up at once. Thanks, however, to neighbours combining their respective dairy herds were properly attended to. One of the latest persons to catch the "flu "has been Mr Ridgley, the mail carrying contractor, who was £taken to the hospital. The mail is now being delivered daily by Mr Alf. Jones on the cream waggon. During Mr D. Keogh's illness, Mr Mitchie generously came forward and took the extra load of cream on Monday mornings Mrs W. J. Michie recently received sad news from Pukekohe to the effect that her brother, Private Frank Graham had the misfortune to lose his left leg and was seriously ill in hospital in England. Word has also been received that a former resident of Kohe Kohe Mr H. Hayter had lost a son two days before hostilities ceased. Some few days back Mr W. Short, of Kohfe Kohe, brother of Cr J A. Short, died in the Waiuku Hospital from th« effects of influenza. General sympathy is expressed with his young family. Hay making has staited in the district but illness makes labour very scarce Paddocks are on the light side although the quality is good. The Maoris have severely suffered from the epidemic, some 27 having died up to last Saturday in the district.
