MANUREWA.
DEATHS OF OLD COLONISTS A pathetic occurrence took place at Manurewa on Saturday, October 26th when an aged married couple, Mr and Mrs Robert M. Scott, passed away within five minutes of one another. The cause of death in each instance was cardiac failure supervening on attacks of influenza. Mr Scott who was 83 years of age was born in Leicestershire, England and came to New Zealand 66 years ago. Mrs Scott who was aged 79 years was a native of Sydney, and airbed in New Zealand some 67 years since. For a number of years they lived at Alfriston, eventually takiug up their residence at Manurewa where they have been for the past 50 years. It was about IS months ago that the deceased couple celebrated their diamond wedding. The old couple passed away almost simultaneously, neither knowing the other had journeyed to the Great Beyond. Mrs Scott was just to succumb and her husband who was in an adjoining room was unconscious at the time. Within a few moments life in his case was also extinct. Both the deceased were widely known and highly respected by all with whom they came in contact. They leave a grown up family of six daughters among them being Mrr Hart (Marton) Mrs Goodwill (Manurewa) Mrs Tooman (Papatoetoe) and Mrs Weathermacher (Auckland) and two sons to mourn their loss. The funeral took place at Alfriston on Monday of last week and was largely attended. The Rev. Hewlett officiating.
