TUAKAU.
The Proprietors of this paper beg to announce that they have purchased from Mr J. H. Claridge the copyright and goodwill of the " Tuakau Press," which will in future be incorporated with the " Pukekohe Times " and will not be published as a separate issue. Mr Percy C. Collins, who was the first member of the Second Division to leave Tuakau for camp, was farewelled at the Tuakau school recently. Mr F. C. Lamb, on behalf of the residents, presented Mr Collins with a wristlet watch as a mark of the esteem in which he is held. The recipient suitably responded. A most pleasant evening was spent. A confirmation service was conducted In thb Boman Catholic Church, on Bnnday last by Dr. Cleary, Boman Catholic Bishop of Auckland. The recent wet weather has delayed the work at the white bridge on the Biver Boad and has rendered the road practically impassable. Vehicular and pedestrian traffic has accordingly to make a detour around Bollard and Whangarata roads. The Waikato Dairy Company's butter factory at Tuakau is now working in full swing with a staff of 14 men under the managership of Mr A H. Boberts. At the present time the factory's output is 1000 boxes of butter per week, the same being in the vicinity of four tons a week in excess of that manufactured for the corresponding period of 1917. In the flush of the season it is hoped to turn out between 1100 and 1200 boxes per week, which is about 200 boxes in advance of the weekly output of last season The increase is attributed to the fact that the Company has secured between 60 and 70 new suppliers. The machinery is driven with a 75 hp. suction gas engine with a 35 hp. engine as a stand-by in the event of the main engine breaking down. For cooling purposes two Haslem freezers with a combined capacity of seven tons have been installed. The water for butter purposes is obtained from the earth at a depth of 250 feet by means of an air compressor. This factory is undoubtedly the most up-to-date in the Auckland province and without doubt is second to none in New Zealand.
