WOMEN'S PATRIOTIC LEAGUE

Pukekohe Branch The monthly meeting of the Executive Committee of the above branch was held in the Pukekohe Borough Council Room on Wednesday, October 9ch. There were present : Miss Webster (President), Mesdames O'Connor, Mcßae and Stuart, Misses Usher, Graham and W. E. Webster. A letter was received from Mr Bickford thanking the Branch for the assistance given in the Provincial Red Cross Campaign, the League having been directly instrumental in raising £466 18s Bd. An acknowledgement for parcels of knitted goods and Red Cross garments was received from the Auckland Centre.

It was reported that 158 Dominion Gift parcels had been sent away for the month of September and that a large number of acknowledgments had again been received, several being from local " boys." Miss Usher, convenor of the Sewing Committee, reported forwarding to Auckland 11 suits pyjamas, 13 hot water bottle covers.

That the monthly box of books had been forwarded to the Central League was reported by Mrs Stuart, convenor of the Literature Committee.

Miss Brown reported that she had sent away 43 pairs sox, 11 scarves, 16 caps, and 6 pairs of mittens.

It was also reported that the takings at the Red Cross shop for the previous three weeks were £l7 16s 3d ; the following ladies having been in charge of the shop during that period, viz., Mesdames Hogan, Wake, Grigor, Me Arthur, Misses G. Bilkey, N. Stuart, Rowles, and Mrs Crum.

Work was acknowledged as follows :

Workers—Sox: Mrs F. L. Wright 9 pairs ; Miss Given 4 pairs; Mesdames McKeown, Porter, Shipherd, 3 pairs each ; Mesdames Beatty, Preston, Napier, Fox, Martin, Runciman, Miss E. A. Wake 2 pair each ; Mesdames Turner, R. W. S. Moore, Boase, Misses Followes, F. Fausett, Honeyford, Boyle 1 pair each. Scarves : Mrs G. Brown 2 ; Mesdames Baxter, J. Blake, Usher, Bobt. Brownlee, Misses E. Jenkins, P. Blake, C. Blake, M. Donald, R. Crosbie 1 each. Caps: Mrs Goldsworthy 5, Mrs Porter 5 ; Mesdames Keith, Bartlett, Crum, 2 each Mittens : Mrs Cowperthwaite ■"> pairs; Miss W. Webster 1 pair. For July and SeptemberPyjamas : Mrs Clark 8 suits ; Mrs Turner 5 ; Mesdames Wake, Heighway, Dell, Taylor, Miss Barter, 2 suits each ; Mesdames PrestoD, Boyle (Pum), Elbert (Puni), Haslam, Misses Fawsett and Usher, one suit each. Bhirts : Mrs Stone 3, Mrs Turner 2, Mrs Preston and Miss Fawsett 1 each. Hot water bottle covers : Mrs Bendall 13.
