FUNERAL OF REV. GEO BUR GESS
The funeral of the Rev George Burgess, F.R AS. whose death was recorded in our last issue, took pis ce at Pipakura on Friday afternoon last and was largely attended. The services at the house and gravesi le were conducted by Rev. H. Johnson, of the Mount Eden Congregational Church, assisted by Rev. J. Jones, of Papakura. At the graveside the Hon. George Fowlds, who had been associated with the ('eceased for about a quarter of a century, outlined Mr Burgess' career. He paid a high tribute to the man) good (juahties and also eulogised the excellent work he accomplished as the first chairman of the Conciliation Board in Auckland, a position in which he won the respect of both employers and employees. The pallbearers were the Hon. George Fowlds, Messrs S. H. Burgees, Wesley Spragg and Lieut Hatt, the last named representing Group E. military area, of which at oce time the deceased's younger son, Brigadier General Burgess J) S0 , who is now at the front commanding tho Au9taialin Field Artdleiy, was the officer in charge.
