MERCER.
MERCER TOWN BOARD
The first meeting of the newlyelected Town Board was held last Friday. Present: Messrs Gillibrand, Valentine, Sellwood, Garter, and Gallery, with the Clerk (Mr H. J. Taplayj Mr H. 8. Valentine was elected as Chairman of the Board. It was resolved to make a refund of 5a to all persons who had paid 10a for dog registrations. It was decided that the acetylene gas globe in front of Mr Bates' should be removed and used to re* place broken lamp in front of the Hall.
It was agreed that tenders should be called for the lease of the Mercer Quarry Reserve for three years. Accounts to the amount of £43 17s 1 Id were passed for payment.
The usual monthly meeting of the Waikato River Board will be held at Mercer on Saturday next. Captain Bagg, skipper of the " Free Trader," who is shortly departing for Hamilton where he will make his headquarters in future, is to _be accorded a send-off by the residents of Mercer shortly. Captain Bagg has lived in Mercer for the last 18 years.
