PAPATOETOE BOY BCOUTS,
The annual meeting of the Papatoetoe Boy Scouts was held in St. John's Hall on Friday last when there was a moderate attendance. The Kev. C. Porter occupied the chair.
IVoceedings opened with the National Anthem played by the Band, followed by selections. Bandmaster Calkin's report on the progress of the Band was most satisfactory. It is only ten months ago sinoe the boys received their instruments and yet they are now capable of playing a complete programme of music.
Scoutmaster Barton submitted a lengthy and most interesting report on the progress of the troop during the past year. Many of the boys, he stated, had received proficiency badges and in the various competitions held in the Auckland Domain they more than held their own in ambulance and stretcher work. The annual report and balance ■heet were presented by the Treasurer (Mr Jehn Bryant) and showed the financial affairs to be in a healthy condition, there being a balance of assets oyer liabilities of £166 17s 6d.
The Committee for the ensuing year were elected aa followsßev. 0. Porter, Bev. H. Mason, Messrs F. Booster, E. Coles, W. J. Dilworth, J. Bryant, J. Whi:ten, J Boss, W. Hope Johnstone and F. Leonard. Messrs Isaac Gray and John Wyllie were elected trustees and Messrs A. W. Hall and W. Bawson auditors. A hearty vote of thinks was accorded Bandmaster Calkin for his untiring work during the past Bed Cross Carnival, he having put much time into the musical part of the proceedings. During the evening items were rendered by Mrs A. Waddell (song), L. Barton (song), Bcout J. Calkin (song), Scout Jack Leonard (recitation), Bandmaster Calkin (cornet solo) and Sergeant Watkins (bass solo). Snpper was partaken of and a most enjoyable evening was brought to a close.
Mr A. W. Hall has purchased the property of Mrs Henwood on Flat Bush Boad.
Mr Harrison, of Ardmore, has erected a butchery establishment on Station Boad.
The Papatoetoe Bcout Band will Twit Tuakau to-morrow to take part in the Bed Cross Carnival to be held in that town.
Record prices for Papatoetoe were realised at Mr J. J. Knight's dairy h'fd sale last week, some of tho cows realising as high as £35 10s. Mr J.Butler, of Mercer, has purchased the property of Mr A. Piice on Great South Road and has taken up his residence there. Mr Hill, of Hamilton, has purchased the propeity of Mr W. Lane in Carruth Road and proposes erecting an up-to-da'e residence to take the place uf the present stiucture.
