WOMEN'S PATRIOTIC LEAGUE

In her annual report of the activities of the Mangere branch of the Women's Patriotic League the Hon. Sec. (Mrs Burrell) states: " Very substantial contributions of goods have been sent monthly to the central dopot. The work generally has been of high quality, and has evoked very favourable comment at the receiving centre. Though the Branch has ended the third year of its work, the need for that work is greater than ever, and just as reinforcements are required at the " Front," so also are they required here, in order that we may continue to provide necessities for our men, which are indispensible to their comfort and well-

being. Tho box-secretary (Miss E' M. Whyte reports: The work for the year has continued to come in steadily. It is with much satisfaction that I have to say that the quality of the work is really excellent both in sewing and knitting, and worthy of the highest praise. As the need increases with every year, we would impress upon you all the necessity for still greater efforts in our work for "our boys." a"i 1 pairs sox, 45 Balaclava caps, 52 pair mitts, 50 scarves—l67heads wool; lfi7 suits pyjamas, 258 pillow cases, 45 eye bandages. The balance sheet shows receipts amounting to £336 10s 9d and expenditure £315 8s 7d, leaving a credit balance of £2O 12s 2d.

At the annual meeting of the Mangere Presbyterian Church held on 19th August, the Treasurer and Secretary gave a very satisfactory report. During the year a debt of many y( ars' standing was cleared offy The balance sheet shows a credit of £4B. The chairman (the Rev Currie) gave a short but interesting address.
