RANGIRIRI
Our Rangiriri correspondent writes: Red Cross functions have been well to the front for some time past in Rangiriri in the shape of concerts, basket socials and carnivals. Miss Dorothy Gerrand was elected Queen of the Rangiriri district, Mr Fersruson undertaking the secretarial duties, and every effort has been put forth to make the various efforts successful. A total amount of £535 will result to the funds, which is thought highly satisfactory considering the limited district in which the local Queen held sway. This might even have been better bat for the misplaced zeal of a few individuals in a neighbouring district with a Queen cf its own, whose subjeots "poached" upon the Rangiriri preserves, by canvassing for subscriptions etc, beyond what, in fairness, should have been considered their territorial boundary. They evidently adopted the motto of a well known " Society " that " the end justifies the means," bnt none the less it was scarcely held to be " playing the game." However, whilst hoping that upon any similar future occasion this breach of etiquette may not be repeated, consolation in this instance must be taken from the fact that the proceeds are all for the same good cause. The final decision as to which Waikato district has been most successful in the effort to raise funds and the comparative results have not yet become definitely known.
