OTAHUHU.

The coronation of Miss Frost, of Westfield, as the winning Carnival Queen in the Otahuhu sub-district took place at Panmure on Friday evening last in the presence of a large and representative company, among the visitors being Miss Lippiatt, the Queen of Otahuhn. Those who took part in the interesting ceremony were Mrs S. Shelton (Mistress of the Robes), Mr A. J. Wildman (Lord Chamberlain), Mr A. H. Hodge (Lord Chancellor), Master Turnbull (Crown bearer) and Mr Peter Turnbull (Herald). The electric lighting arrangements which were on a lavish scale were under the supervision of Mr A. J. Wildman. Music was supplied by the Panmure orchestra under the baton of Mr Cahill.

The meeting of the Otahuhu Borough Council convened for last Thursday evening lapsed for want of a quorum. This is the first occasion during the life of the present Council on which this has happened. For some unknown reason the preacher appointed to take the morning service last Sunday at the Otahuhu Baptist Church failed to attend. The congregation were inclined to depart when a suggestion was made that Mrs Andrew senr., one of the members of the congregation, should be asked to occupy the pulpit Despite her advancing years Mrs Andrew filled the vacancy and carried the service through.
